Todos los militares posaron para la fotografía con la pistola apuntando hacia el lado izquierdo menos el jefe del Estado Mayor, el vicemariscal Pak Jong-Chon, quien apunta hacia arriba porque Kim Jong-un se encontraba de su lado izquierdo.
El pasado 25 de julio tuvo lugar, la ceremonia de entrega de estos presentes a los militares en la sede del Comité Central del Partido de los Trabajadores de Corea del Norte con motivo del 67 aniversario del Día de la Victoria en la Gran Guerra Patriótica de Liberación.
Cada 27 de julio, Corea del Norte celebra esta fiesta nacional que recuerda el fin de la Guerra de Corea que fue originada a causa de la división de la península de Corea y duró casi tres años. Ambos países firmaron un acuerdo que garantizaba el cese completo de hostilidades hasta que se logre un acuerdo pacífico final, no obstante ese fin no llegó a concretarse por lo que las dos coreas permanecen en constantes tensiones bilaterales.
