Según la cadena local KDKA, la policía confirmó el tiroteo, al llegar al sitio del incidente los guardias del orden fueron recibidos a balazos y se escondieron detrás sus vehículos. El tirador estába en la sinagoga Tree of Life en Wilkins Avenue.

Los medios revelaron además que al menos tres policías fueron heridos.
La policía confirmó que el sospechoso en el ataque a la sinagoga fue detenido y resultó herido.

"En este momento, el sospechoso en el tiroteo fue detenido, tenemos numerosas víctimas en la sinagoga, tres policías resultaron heridos, no hay otra información, porque estamos buscando en todo el edificio (…), hay víctimas", declaró el portavoz de la policía a los periodistas.
Según informes, el sospechoso estaba fuertemente armado, posiblemente en posesión de un rifle.
También la cadena informó que dentro de la sinagoga sigue encerrado un grupo de personas.
