La lucha extrema es una versión más violenta y más sangrienta de la tradicional lucha libre mexicana, donde a menudo las peleas son más espectáculo que combate real.
Durante las luchas extremas, todo vale. Los participantes se golpean con sillas y hasta con largos tubos fluorescentes envueltos en alambre de púas. Los combatientes, que en gran parte usan máscaras, utilizan cuchillos y tenedores plásticos para herir a sus oponentes.

La multitud se vuelve loca y grita fuerte cuando la sangre comienza a manchar las caras de los luchadores. Después de 15 minutos de batalla dentro y fuera del ring, dos de los seis participantes en la pelea son declarados ganadores por el árbitro.
Irónicamente, pese a la naturaleza violenta de los combates, las sangrientas luchas terminan con una fraternal muestra de hermandad. Al final de cada pelea los participantes se abrazan y elogian las habilidades físicas de sus oponentes.
"Somos luchadores extremos, pero no somos violentos. Ya tenemos demasiada violencia en este país", dijo Crazy Boy, uno de los jefes de la empresa independiente Desastre Total Ultraviolento (DTU), a Reuters.
